October 3, 1961 - TuesdayAccording to a story related by W.B. William Hall, a group of brethren, after returning from a lodge meeting at another lodge in 1961, discussed the feasibility of forming a new lodge in the Mountain Park area. October 17, 1961 - TuesdayAt the Pine Needle Clubhouse a list of 69 Master Masons in the Mountain Park area was compiled to see how many of them would be interested in forming a new Lodge. Approximately 27 brethren on that list contributed one hundred dollars each to start a new Lodge. All 27 plus 14 others become charter members of the Masonic Lodge known as Mountain Park Lodge No. 729. November 30, 1961At the second meeting at the Pine Needle Clubhouse on Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain, Gwinnett County, Georgia 15 Brother Master Masons met to propose a new Masonic Lodge. The Brethren present were: G. Robert Parker H. Higgins Roy O. Smith Seaborn Cochran Herbert A. Thigpen William K. Hall F. Ray Street L.J. Canup Clarence Patt M.D. Shaw Wade Gunter E.C. Lancater John Shelton Herbert Spence Mountain Park Lodge was dedicated at Corinth Baptist Church at 7:30. Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Georgia, Clarence H. Cohen presented the Charter to W.B. Nick R. Stephens, the first Master of Mountain Park Lodge. Then he installed the remaining officers as follows: S.W.: William K. Hall J.W.: G. Robert Parker Treas.: Hollis B. Nash Sec.: Herbert A. Thigpen S.D.: William H. Moore J.D.: John C. Brooks S.S.: Roy Smoth J.S.: Jack Street Tyler: Bruce W. Stowe From these beginning Mountain Park has grown to where it is today, an active lodge with over 200 members. |
